Earlier this week we had a little scare with Avery. On Monday, there was a very noticeable bump on her left cheek. Knowing that bumps magically appear and disappear in a day with babies, I tried not to worry...but in the back of my mind I just knew what it was. The next day the bump was still there and beginning to look worse, so I took her to her doctor. After going through the torture of watching him mash on my little girl's face then give her an injection, which only resulted in a cry of sheer terror, we discovered that it was indeed MRSA. Since I had my experience with the infection already, I had been keeping a watchful eye on her, fearing that she would somehow contract it. When my fears became a realization I was upset and angry...we could not believe we were dealing with this yet again. The doctor called in a prescription for an antibiotic and then asked to see her again the next day, mentioning that she may have to be hospitalized. This is obviously something no mother wants to ever hear...especially for her 12 week old baby.
The next day, the bump already looked better...a little smaller and not quite as red. I was very hopeful that things were going to be okay. Fortunately, my thoughts were accurate and Avery did not have to go to the hospital for surgery. Praise God! Unfortunately, we were informed that this may not be the last time that she could have it (or myself for that matter). It can be a recurring thing that you just can't prevent. In the meantime, we are so thankful that this did not turn out to be worse. And we pray that hopefully this will be our last time dealing with it!
